LAKE OSWEGO HIRES NEW CITY MANAGER

LAKE OSWEGO – The Lake Oswego City Council has selected Alex McIntyre, the current
Assistant County Administrator for Marin County, CA, as the new City Manager. Mr. McIntyre
was the unanimous choice of the Council after interviewing three finalists last week and
conducting extensive reference and background checks. Mr. McIntyre previously served as the
City Manager of Tiburon and Portola Valley in Northern California and served as the Assistant
to the City Manager of Arcadia, CA. Mr. McIntyre has a Masters degree in Public
Administration from USC and a BS in Political Science from the University of California-Irvine.
Last week, the Council interviewed three candidates. Four of the seven Councilors visited the
Bay Area last weekend to interview both Marin County and Tiburon officials, staff and
community members. Council President, John Turchi said, “I was impressed with Alex’s ability
to listen and affirm different points of view. He will be able to work with neighborhood
association representatives and advisory committees to forge positive working relationships.”
Councilor Kristin Johnson said she felt Mr. McIntyre “navigated similar issues in other
communities that we face here in Lake Oswego and he will help steer us through the large
projects that we have before us.”

Mr. McIntyre replaces Douglas J. Schmitz, former City Manager for 15 years, who left in
September 2007 to become City Manager of Los Altos, California.

Mr. McIntyre will begin employment on March 3, 2008. Council anticipates approving the
employment contract at its February 5, 2008 regular meeting.
